3.5 Major fields of science
The majority of publications produced by all Regions fell under the scope of the following fields: “Natural Sciences”, “Engineering and Technology”, “Medical and Health Sciences” and “Agricultural Sciences”. Figure 3.5.1 provides a comprehensive picture of each Region's performance -number of publications, citations and the relevant citation scores- in these fields. Citation scores over 1.00 exceedthe world average.
All Regions had scientific activity in the following fields: “Natural Sciences”, “Engineering and Technology” and “Social Sciences”.
Eleven (11) Regions had scientific activity in “Medical & Health Sciences”, and eight (8) in “Agricultural Sciences” and “Humanities”.
The field normalised citation score was calculated only for TEIs with more than 50 publications for the period 1996-2010.
